Whether you need immediate inter-facility transportation of critically ill or injured patients, or a scene response for EMS assistance, AirMed is there for you. Working to save lives and lower out of hospital times, AirMed is the helicopter service of choice .

Our Commitment To You…

AirMed is committed to offering the highest quality care and transportation for you and your patients. Whether a burn patient for The Joseph M. Still Burn Center , a cardiac or stroke patient for University Hospital , trauma scene calls or stat trauma transfers, we will be there for you.

Our Aircraft

We are proud to announce our primary helicopter, a new Agusta 119 Koala.  It is the latest production model from Agusta and is considered to be the premier aero medical helicopter available today.  It offers the best combination of speed and performance, as well as the capacity to carry two (2) patients simultaneously.   This helicopter, which is the fastest in the EMS industry, has a normal cruise speed of 165mph, with a top cruise speed of 175mph.  It is powered by a Pratt PT 6B engine which provided more than sufficient life for the most demanding flight situations.   It is equipped with the latest aero medical kit manufactured by Life Port.  When time is critical, we have the means to provide quicker response times, and faster transports to the receiving facilities.

Our Staff

Our pilots are Commercial and ATP rated with the instrument certification. On average, they have a minimum of 16 years flying experience and a minimum of 3000 hours flight time.

Our flight nurses have an average of 9 yrs of critical care experience and hold certifications in ABLS, BTLS, PALS, NRP, CENT, CCRN, CFRN.

Our flight paramedics have on average 8 years of EMS experience and hold certifications in ABLS, ACLS, BTLS, PHTLS, PALS, NRP, CCEMTP and FP-C.

Benefits of Aero Medical Transportation:

  • Short out of hospital time. A few examples of transport times:

  • McDuffie Regional Medical Center to Augusta : 10 minutes

Burke County Hospital to Augusta : 10 minutes

Emanuel County Hospital ( Swainsboro , GA ) to Augusta : 22 minutes

Fairview Park Hospital ( Dublin , GA ) to Augusta : 25 minutes

Wilkes County Hospital to Augusta : 20 minutes

Washington County Hospital ( Sandersville , GA ) to Augusta : 20 minutes

  • Two dedicated critical care attendants. Our nurses have a minimum of five years critical care experience (ICU and ER) and additional training in aero medical critical care. Our paramedics have a minimum of five years experience, with additional training to the level of Critical Care Paramedic. All of our crew members hold certifications in: ACLS, PALS and BTLS, and have taken courses in flight physiology. Additionally, our crews are able to administer and maintain critical care medications that are not available on regular ambulances.

  • Due to the low altitudes that helicopters are able to fly at (1500 – 3500 feet), there are generally no ill affects associated with flying at higher altitudes – i.e. increased ICP, etc.

  • Since our helicopter is manned around the clock, there is no call up time for crews. We generally lift off within 10 minutes of receiving a request for transportation.
